Sometimes you need help in the kitchen but still want a delicious flavor-packed sauce you can’t make in 15 minutes. So I am sharing these clean and wholesome cooking sauces with. And a butter tofu recipe to make with them!

One thing I loved THE most before going plant-based was butter chicken. I longed for the creamy delicious buttery sauce, not the chicken. So the switch to using tofu, chickpeas or both didn’t matter much to me but I wanted to get the sauce just right. So I was so excited when one of my favourite brands came out with a butter sauce, that is also vegan! Butter tofu here we come!

Now I have attempted to create my own butter sauce before. But to be honest, using a pre-made spice mix or sauce does generate better results. As a mama of three, who loves to be out and about, I need to have some ready-made meals in my dinner arsenal.

HOWEVER, and this is a big one for me. Most packaged sauces out there are loaded with fillers and sugar! Did you know that just 1 serving of ketchup (1 tbsp) has more sugar than a cookie! And that 250ml of ketchup has the same amount of sugar as 88 jelly beans! What the sweet!

So being mindful and careful I try and choose only ready-made sauces from brands whos favours whole foods and ingredients! Which is not as easy as you think! So when I first came across the sauces from Good Food For Good, I was pleasantly surprised. Most of these sauces are sweetened with dates, made from organic ingredients that you would cook with yourself. They are free from gluten, soy, corn, refined sugars, and preservatives. And the VERY best part is that they are a buy one feed one venture! Which I think is just amazing. Plus their sauces come in a glass jar that we can upcycle or recycle! Along with their variety of ketchup and BBQ sauces, they have recently come out with some amazing cooking sauces like taco sauce, butter chicken, and coconut curry.

Fool-proof Butter Tofu and Chickpea, yes it’s vegan!

  • 1 jar of butter chicken sauce from Good Food For Good (order here)

  • 1 block firm tofu, cubed

  • 1 1/2 cups of cooked or 1 can of rinsed chickpeas

  • 1 onion, diced

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced

  • 3 large tomatoes, cubed

  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1 tbs sesame oil

  • 1 tsp salt and pepper


  • In a pot or in your instant pot sautee the onions and garlic in the sesame oil. Add in the salt and pepper and cook until soft.
  • Then add in the tofu and brown slightly.
  • Add in the tomatoes, chickpea and sauce and water. Cover and continue to cook over medium heat for 15 minutes. If using the instant pot then cover and cook on bean setting for 10 minutes.
  • Garnish with some fresh cilantro or serve over steamed rice or along a nice fresh salad.
