I was inspired to make this delicious flavoured popcorn recipe by my favourite vegan butter brand. I was so excited when they came out with their spiced cinnamon flavour! But no fret if you can not find a flavoured butter. this recipe is made using regular vegan butter so everyone can enjoy this flavoured popcorn.
A healthy flavoured popcorn recipe
We enjoy popcorn pretty often at our house. It is the perfect movie night snack while we are all cuddled on the couch under a cozy blanket. And it also makes a great game night snack too!
Best of all it helps satisfy my kid’s constant need for snacks!
Because popcorn is low in calories on its own this snack can be as low or high cal as you like. You can add lots of cinnamon-spiced butter and salt or just a tad. I usually make a bowl for my kiddos with loads of butter and for me and my husband I scale back a little (but honestly not too much because this butter is A-Mazing!
Zero-waste eco-friendly snack recipe
I highly recommend using a popcorn maker for this. If you don’t have one considering buying one. I actually see them often at value village, a used store. Popcorn makers are inexpensive and make this snack a zero-waste option! No microwave bag to throw out and no harsh nasty chemicals to ingest!
Plus I was so sick of burning the corn kernels that I felt a popcorn maker was a great option for us.
Did you know that microwave popcorn bags are lined with PFCs. This chemical can be broken down into perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), a chemical that’s suspected to cause cancer!
Recently, the FDA conducted a review of this PFOA to see what sources may be contributing to this chemical is in our bloodstream. They concluded that microwave popcorn may account for 20% of the average PFOA blood levels in Americans, scary stuff right there (1,2)!
So stick to popcorn makers and try and buy your kernels in bulk! Saving yourself and the environment!
Making this spiced popcorn recipe
There is no big secret or skill in making this flavoured popcorn recipe. If you can find the culcherd cinnamon spiced butter then use that. Otherwise, regular vegan butter works very well (we tested both ways).
And if you are using an air popper popcorn maker you can make it just there. Did you know that little hopper on the top is actually for melting butter? Your welcome lol!
So just add the butter to the and the spices to the hopper and let the heat of the popcorn machine do its thing. Stir once or twice and you got your liquid gold! Alternatively, you can just add the butter and spices to a bowl and microwave it on low.
If you don’t have a popcorn maker then you can check out this post by Cookie and Kate on how to make popcorn on the stove.
