Today, we are bringing you a taste of Brazil with our refreshing coconut water caipirihna mocktail! Featuring the flavors of coconut water and fresh muddled limes topped with fizzy soda water.

This recipe is our version of a virgin caipirinha that prioritizes Brazilian flavors. Traditional caipirinhas feature cachaca (Brazilian white rum), limes, and sugar cane, so to avoid just making a limeade, we added coconut water to keep the flavors more in line with what you will find locally in Brazil. While other virgin caipirinhas out there use ginger beer, we felt that this does not stay true to the flavors in this traditional Brazilian cocktail! And thus, our coconut water caipirinha mocktail was created!

I often make this for my kids, especially when we're also enjoying our homemade vegan pao de queijo or dairy-free brigadeiro! It’s quick to make, totally refreshing, and safe for everyone’s diet.

🥳Why You'll Love This Recipe

My entire family loves this virgin caipirinha, especially on game nights or movie nights! It's a fun recipe for any occasion. Here's why you'll love it too:

  • True to Tradition: Our virgin caipirinha is a genuine slice of Brazil—minus the alcohol. We keep it authentic and simple with a nice tropical taste, no ginger beer!
  • Quick & Easy: From fridge to glass in just 5 minutes, it’s perfect for busy days.
  • Refreshing & Flavorful: Mocktails don't have to lack flavor; this perfectly balanced virgin caipirinha has all the flare!
  • Allergy-Safe: Free from gluten, dairy, nuts, and alcohol, so you can serve it up without any worries.

🥥Mocktail Ingredients

Our coconut water mocktail uses simple ingredients to give you a tasty mocktail that will leave you refreshed and satisfied! Here is what you need for this virgin caipirinha twist:

Ingredients for the coconut water mocktail displayed on a wooden board, including limes, cane sugar, ice, a bottle of soda water, and a carton of coconut water.
  • Limes: We used fresh limes to make this virgin caipirinha mocktail to mimic the traditional flavors of this drink. Fresh limes also pair well with coconut water and help brighten its flavors.
  • Sugar: To keep this mocktail easy, we used sugar in place of fancy syrups. The course sugar also helps meddle with the limes, bringing out even more flavor and balancing their tartness.
  • Coconut Water: I use pure coconut water because of its hydrating qualities and subtle sweetness, which make it an excellent base for our virgin caipirinha. It also mimics the flavors of Brazil, making it the best choice.
  • Club Soda or Sparkling Water: Adds a delightful fizz without changing the flavors of our mocktail!
  • Ice Cubes: This mocktail is best served cold so make sure to have lots of ice ready.

Full quantities can be found in the recipe card below.

⚠️All ingredients for our virgin caipirinha are naturally gluten-free, dairy-free, and nut-free. However, always ensure there is no cross-contamination by keeping your countertops clean and using certified gluten-free coconut water and sugar.

🍋Ingredient Substitutions

Our virgin caipirinha only has a few ingredients, so if you need to swap any out, just be mindful that this will have an effect on the final product. Here are some suggestions that have worked well for us when needed to swap an ingredient:

  • Sugar Alternatives: If you prefer a natural sweetener, you can substitute brown sugar, honey, or agave syrup for sugar. Adjust to taste, as these may be sweeter.
  • Sparkling Water Substitutions: No club soda? No problem! You can use any sparkling water to add that fizz. Flavored sparkling waters like lime or coconut can enhance the tropical vibe of our virgin caipirinha without overpowering the mocktail.
  • Lime Alternatives: No fresh limes? Try lemon or even orange for a different kind of citrus twist. Both work well with the subtle sweetness of coconut water.

👩🏽‍🍳Step-By-Step Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Lime Base

Start by slicing 2 limes into thin wheels. I prefer wheels, but you can also cut them into wedges. Then, juice the remaining limes; you will need 1 oz of lime juice.

Step 2: Muddle

In a sturdy glass, combine the lime slices and sugar. Gently muddle these together to mix the sugar with the lime juice freshly released from the slices.

Step 3: Mix And Shake

Transfer the muddled lime and sugar mixture into a cocktail shaker filled with ice. Add the freshly squeezed lime juice and 4 oz of coconut water. Secure the lid and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to blend the ingredients well.

Step 4: Add A Fizz

Fill two glasses with crushed ice, then strain the shaken mixture evenly between the glasses. Top each with 2oz of club soda or sparkling water to add that extra fiz.

Step 5: Serve Your Coconut Water Mocktail

Finally, stir each glass gently to combine all the elements for your coconut water lime mocktails. Garnish with a lime slice or fresh mint and then enjoy!

💡Mocktail Recipe Tips

Here are some of my go-to tips to ensure your coconut water mocktail turns out perfectly every time. These pointers are especially handy for those new to the mocktail game to ensure you get a flavorful drink!

  • Perfect Muddling: To extract just the right amount of juicy lime flavor without bitterness, gently muddle the lime slices with sugar. Think of pressing rather than smashing, aiming for the oils of the limes to mix with the sugar.
  • Balance the Tartness: To keep your virgin caipirinha from becoming too tart, ensure you add in all the recommended sugar. If you prefer a sweeter drink you can reduce the amount of lime juice or add in a bit more sugar.
  • Layering Right: To prevent a messy situation, don't add your soda water to the cocktail shaker! Use a tall glass with more soda if you want a more subtle virgin caipirinha.

🍹Recipe Variations:

Coconut Mojito Mocktail: For a mojito-inspired version, add fresh herbs, such as fresh mint or basil, to the muddling step, and switch the club soda to mint-infused sparkling water.

Berry Caipirinha Mocktail: Instead of muddling with limes, use strawberries or raspberries instead!

Coconut-Lime Cucumber Mocktails: To give this a bit of an American twist, add some sliced cucumbers to the lime muddle.

🥡How To Store This Recipe

This coconut water lime mocktail is best enjoyed fresh. However, if you must store it, keep your virgin caipirinha in the fridge in a sealed container. Be mindful that the drink will become flat over time, so it’s recommended to consume it as soon as possible after mixing for the best experience.
