🌴Brazilian Inspired Recipe
Today, we are continuing our series on the flavors of Brazil with another refreshing drink recipe. We are making the tropical coconut kiss mocktail (or cocktail) today.
A lot of my childhood memories are of playing on the beach in a small city in Brazil. After immigrating to Canada, we tried often to visit our family back home. Every time I landed in São Paulo, I was always amazed at the smells and warmth that hit me as soon as we left the airport. For my entire visit, I would be enveloped in tropical flavors, surrounded by lush greenery, the sounds of the ocean breaking near the shore, and the warm breeze on my face. When I returned home to Canada, a country I love, I was then immediately longing for those aspects of my home country, Brazil.
I try to hold on to those parts of Brazil that I love, and found that through cooking, I can bring a piece of my home country right into my kitchen. Sharing those tropical flavors not only with my family but with yours as well!
This Coconut Kiss Mocktail brings many aspects of what I love about Brazil right to the kitchen table. The tropical flavors of coconut and pineapple mix with a little piece of Canada through the cherries. To keep it family-friendly, our recipe is alcohol-free but easily works with a bit of coconut rum or traditional Brazilian cachaça. Made without any added sugar, it’s a refreshing, healthier, fun mocktail you can enjoy year-round. This drink is bright and colorful, bringing sunny tropical vibes right to your home!

🧠Nutrient Highlight, Why Make This?
Oue coconut kiss mocktail offers some key nutrients that contribute to your daily needs. Here’s a simple breakdown of what you get in each serving:
This mocktail is relatively low in carbohydrates and sugar, making it a healthier option compared to other sugary beverages. It is also packed with healthy fats, predominantly from the coconut cream. Healthy fats are essential for brain health as they support cognitive function, improve mood, and provide a steady source of energy for your brain (1, 2, 3). In addition, pineapple juice adds a burst of vitamin C, which is beneficial to immune function and is rich in antioxidants, aiding in overall health (4, 5, 6).
🍒Main Ingredients
Here's a breakdown of what you'll need to make your coconut kiss cocktail recipe and why each component is essential to creating a well-balanced drink:
- Coconut Cream: Coconut cream provides the rich, creamy texture essential for a smooth mouthfeel and tropical flavor while keeping this drink dairy-free.
- Pineapple Juice: Pineapple juice pairs so well with coconut and gives this drink a nice tart, sweet tropical flavor.
- Cherry Juice: I love adding cherry juice to this recipe to give our cocktail a beautiful hue and a natural fruity sweetness. It helps balance out the flavors of the pineapple and contrasts the creamy coconut well.
- Fresh Lime Juice: Lime juice adds a refreshing acidity that balances out the sweetness of the other juices and enhances the overall flavor profile. Limes are an amazing ingredient to add to a drink!
- Ice Cubes: Essential for chilling the drink and providing a refreshing coolness.
- (Optional) White Rum or Coconut Rum: If you want to make this coconut kiss mocktail alcoholic, rum pairs well with the flavors of this cocktail. Choose coconut rum for an extra boost of tropical flavor.
Recommended Garnishes
- Condensed Coconut Milk: I love adding a rim of condensed milk to the glass before pouring in the coconut kis cocktail. This kicks up the tropical flavors and adds an extra touch of sweetness.
- Fresh Cherries and an Orange or Pineapple Slice: Adds a pop of color and a hint of freshness to each glass.
Full quantities can be found in the recipe card below.
🍍Substitutions
Sometimes, you might not have all the ingredients for a recipe on hand, I totally get that! So here are some suggestions for substitutions for your coconut kiss cocktail:
- No Pineapple Juice: If you're out of fresh pineapple juice, orange juice is the next best alternative. We have also made this drink with mango juice which will still add that sweet and tropical twist to your mocktail.
- No Fresh Limes: Substitute with fresh lemons, grapefruit, or, if you're in a pinch, bottled lime juice.
- No Cherry Juice: If cherry juice isn't available, pomegranate juice or cranberry juice make excellent substitutes. They offer a similar sweetness and vibrant color.
- Coconut Cream: This one is hard to substitute as it is the base of this drink. You can use coconut milk for a lighter version. Just note that it will be less creamy.
👩🏽🍳Step-By-Step Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the Shaker
Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Before adding the coconut cream, give it a good stir or shake to mix in the separated solids and liquids. Add the coconut cream, pineapple juice, and lime juice. If you're including alcohol, add it to the shaker as well.
Step 2: Shake It Up
Close the shaker tightly, and shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds. This will chill the mixture thoroughly and help incorporate all the flavors.
Step 3: Prep the Glass
For a special touch, I like to add a rim to my mocktail glass. Here’s how to do it:
- Condensed Coconut Milk Rim: Pour some condensed coconut milk into a wide bowl. Dip the rim of your glass into the milk, creating a sweet, creamy edge around the top.
- Sugar (or coconut flakes) Rim: Take a lime slice and rub it around the top edge of the glass. Then, dip the rim into a shallow bowl of sugar for a sweet, crunchy coating.
Then add some ice to your prepped glass and pour the cherry juice into the bottom.
Step 4: Strain And Serve
Strain the mixture into your glass. Pour slowly, aiming for the side of the glass to ensure the cherry juice stays at the bottom. Alternatively, you can stir gently if you prefer a uniform color.
Step 5: Garnish Your Coconut Kiss
Garnish with fresh cherries and a slice of orange or pineapple on the rim of the glass. This adds a festive, tropical touch and a hint of extra flavor.
💡Recipe Tips
Here are some of my go-to tips to ensure your Coconut Kiss Mocktail turns out perfectly every time:
- Using Canned Coconut Cream: Canned coconut cream can separate, with solids and liquids forming distinct layers. Before using, stir or shake the can well to ensure an even consistency in your coconut kiss mocktail.
- Creating the Layer: To help you get that perfect layer, gently pour the mixed coconut kiss from the shaker over the back of a spoon held just above the cherry juice. This helps the liquids layer without mixing.
- Rimming the Glass: For a perfect rim, dip the edge of your glass in a shallow plate of condensed coconut milk (or sugar), pressing the rim into a plate and slowly rolling the glass.
- Opening the Shaker: If your cocktail shaker gets stuck, wrap a dish towel around the top part to get a better grip, and gently twist and pull. If it’s really stuck, run the top under warm water for a few seconds to loosen it up.
🍹Recipe Variations
Here are a few ways to mix up your coconut kiss cocktail to suit different tastes or to use up what you have on hand:
Tropical Coconut Kiss: For an extra tropical twist, add a splash of mango or passion fruit juice to your coconut kiss cocktail.
Berry Coconut Kiss: Replace the cherry juice with mixed berry juice. This adds a delightful berry flavor and a beautiful deep red color.
Spicy Coconut Kiss: Add a few slices of fresh jalapeño to the shaker for a spicy kick. This variation is perfect for those who like a little heat in their drinks.
🥡How To Store This Recipe
If you have any leftover coconut kiss cocktail, pour it into an airtight container and refrigerate it. It will stay fresh for up to 24 hours. Just give it a good shake before serving again. For longer storage, you can freeze the coconut kiss mocktail in ice cube trays. These can be used later to chill and flavor other drinks.
